Its perspective. No problem providing an exo skeleton to a parilyzed veteran allowing them to walk again and function as normal. Elon Musk is either dreaming or lying.

The people he funds are just telling him what he wants to hear in order to continue getting funds to continue exploring their fantasies.

They're talking about research that was done many decades ago that has fundamental limits that make it impractical to pursue in the hopes of achieving what Musk expects. The original 256 electrodes that were used to read brainwaves in older experiments are being increased to 3,072 electrodes, which just means that they will be able to read 12 times as many brainwave signals. The type of information this set-up will gather is a far cry from the amount of information that the brain deals with in it's normal processing (100s of billions of signals per second). It has no ability to input information either. Mapping the entire brain is virtually impossible (considering the number of neurons, each with a different range of connections to other neurons that can develop or weaken or change configuration over time), and since no two brains are identical in their neural anatomy, every map would be different and require an almost completely separate configuration. The fact that the mind (both conscious and subconscious) plays a large part in controlling the configurations via how we choose to think or respond to signals, what we choose to remember and the processes involved, our memory content and how memories are stored by various neural structures across the neocortex, our capacity (or incapacity) to use various parts of the brain (such as memory storage and recall, planning and predicting, imagining and conceptualizing, habit formation and suppression, control of emotional reactions by the higher intellect, the ability to focus or concentrate our thoughts in spite of other signals interfering, etc.) makes this utopian dream a bigger problem than all the money in the world could ever solve.

The brain is not a simple organ that can be entirely mapped out. It is in constant change and each one is different in the finer details. Neural links develop and change over time based on a number of factors, with a person's personal experiences and how they choose to think about and deal with them being one of the main things that cause unknowable differentiations in our individual neural structures. If we were all of the same mind and had the same experiences and reacted to things in exactly the same way, it would be much easier, but we don't, and that's one of God's greatest gifts that can't be usurped by any man.

AI is just another name for computer code. It requires someone to already understand how it's going to work. The perception that AI can become sentient and figure things out on it's own is just a fantasy.

Machine learning gives it a run for the money but CAP CHA shows that AI cannot meme understand OR identify a bike from a train in the CAP cha gate way. However, thats today. "They" are 400 years ahead. Can ya imagine ?
