Novavax was already working on a vaccine for COVID-19. With the new gene-sequencing completed on November 9 for B.1.1.529, now all they have to do is isolate and produce a vaccine that will effectively target the new variant's spike protein. Once you have the "base" started, making slight adjustments is easy and doesn't take very long (weeks). As new variants pop up, new vaccines can also pop up within weeks.
There's nothing to see, here, there's no conspiracy, these companies didn't have a vaccine for Omicron already being worked on. Dozens of companies are working on vaccines for the virus, however: nothing new, there.
