Yup, and they trash talked the US for many years because we had our guns to protect us from a tyrannical government,

I don't see any Aussies talking about their disarmament. I would expect to hear many of them regretting it at this point. Perhaps the totalitarian Aussie government does a good job at not allowing speech along these lines from gaining traction/attention? Or perhaps the Aussies are just so ashamed, so embarrassed that they did this to themselves, that they cannot bring it up....

Imagine telling your child as you're being separated into concentration camps why this is happening, and why you can't stop the bad men from taking them from you. "Daddy, why won't you stop the bad men from stabbing me with the poison? Why are you letting them take mommy to the camp?" "Well, son, you see, a few decades back, we didn't want to be like those gun-crazed American madmen, so we gave all of our guns to the bad men in exchange for a paltry sum of money. That's why daddy has to say goodbye, son." Fucking tragic.

He says, typing from his laptop in a hotel room which he has spent the last 6 weeks in "quarantine" because he traveled across a county line during the 18th lockdown in Australia.

I acknowledged that the USA is in a situation very close to where Australia is now. I made no claims of superiority or that we took any kind of meaningful action. I am ashamed of this. But one thing I am not ashamed of- Despite decades of pressure, WE STILL HAVE NOT BUDGED ON GIVING UP OUR GUNS. Otherwise, I might be confined to a hotel room, separated from my family, just like many of your people are.

The thing that keeps most parents behaved is the idea that behaving will keep the children in their custody.

That's a great point. I've never thought of it from that angle, very good observation there LOLO.
