Diego Garcia is an important strategic base for the U.S. Navy. Back in the 80s when Iran and Iraq were at war the Navy would maintain presence in the Persian Gulf in order to maintain and keep the sea lanes open. We’d always go the Diego Garcia before and after going to the Persian Gulf. Been drunk in Diego Garcia many times, about the only thing to do there when you have liberty is drink. Back then there were only 2 clubs you could drink at, EM (enlisted men) club and the Merchant Marines/Brit club which we usually dank there because it was better.
