Yes they are in deep shit, but your timetable is a bit fast. Something that is a big deal in China is the mandate from heaven. Regimes fall when the population senses that the regime has lost it. A best analogy is when Ghia is upset. Floods, monsoons, sand storms, etc. are the signs.
