if they had intended all those weapons to be given to the afghanis to defend the place they would have had a full handing over ceremony just like what happens every other time someone wants to show off peaceful victories. they could hardly hand over the gear to the taliban itself so what do you do? drop it and run knowing who was going to come after what.

I think the problem was the way it was done. Our guys left in the middle of the night not even telling the afghans they were leaving till they turned everything off and flew away.
You could definitely argue that they never were in a position to actually hold the country by themselves, but why did we just pull the plug? Why weren't we monitoring the situation so we could at least bomb weapon caches to prevent them from falling into Taliban hands?
Seeing those mountain goat fuckers holding full auto M4s and driving around up armored humvees all financed by the US tax payer just grinds my fucking gears.
All those lives, all that money, all that time just to hand over billions in equipment to a hostile force. It was all just such a fucking waste.

Grinds my gears too!! A whole bunch of brand new crated humvees just left there for the Taliban. Don't get it at all, that's a fortune in the millions of dollars. I don't believe the costs of shipping them back to the US would have been that great. Its the taxpayer paying for that waste again. Our troops could have used these Humvees back home.

Especially since they are required to destroy and make inoperable. Which means the US gave them the equipment. They make grenades specifically for this. They burn hot enough to ignite aluminum and melt steel.

The real truth of the matter is he wouldn’t have fucked up quite this bad. He still would’ve fucked other things up, because he fucked up everything for four fucking years aside from the economy, but these people wouldn’t have dared pull this shit off with Trump in the White House. I criticize him constantly, because I think he deserves it, but he wasn’t a fucking pushover like this administration when it comes to this type of stuff specifically. He deserves credit for that. One of the most bloodless administrations I’ve ever seen. And they had to manufacture scandals to try to pin on him. For as much as I do dislike him now, compared to 99.9% of politicians he was squeaky clean. I still think he’s an asshole, but at least he was our asshole part of the time.

Again, this isn’t panic. They are ducking out, avoiding questions, then they will come back like nothing happened. They might still have to face some questions when they return, but they’ll just blow it off, the press will give them mostly a free pass, and they will move onto the next disaster. No one will be held accountable, and they’ll be just fine. It’s actually a pretty good strategy. They don’t have to answer to anyone, not even the law, not even the American people, we have no power to vote them out. This isn’t panic.
