Lawyer was confused. One or more infiltrators in the RED team tried to inject a black pill in the data and other confusing stories. No hardware was taken, only images/copies without disrupting the original hardware nor state of the software.

They tried to turn the technical aspect of the symposium into a debacle.

Misinformation, timing and delivery by the DS operative. CodeMonkeyZs lawyer was attempting to protect CodeMonkeyZ from digging himself deeply in a defamation suit. They quickly resolved the concern and proceeded with the knowledge of the infiltration and what, if any data was compromised. That's how I understood it ... from everything I read on it today.

Before Ron had plausible deniability.

Even after it became clear to the lawyer that they didn't possess a stolen hard drive the lawyer persisted that they had unlawful data.
