One of the most spectacular sights I have experienced in my life; was an eruption of the volcano of Mt Etna! I lived on this volcano for two years, the locals explained if the volcano did not erupt it would cause a devastating earthquake. Although, small earthquakes were common, as was volcanic ash everywhere; produce was the richest I had ever eaten.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The best tomatoes for making sauce I found are from San Marzano which are grown in the volcanic ash of Mt. Vesuvious.

Yes! volcanic ash is surprisingly rich in nutrients.

ash is surprisingly rich in nutrients.

I know, I grow San Marzano tomatoes from seed and they can't compare to the real deal. Nutrients make everything taste great. Ever have a tasteless tomato? Most likely grown in nutrient deficient soil.
