Yep - all part of the plan - as are smart meters. You CAN opt out of smart meters - I did. BUt they present it "we'll be updating meters in your area during the week of...) like we don't have a choice. We do - and we need to act on it.
True. I opted out. It cost $175 to change it back to an analog meter, plus $45 a month to have it manually read. Then, magically, my bills were nearly twice as much as usual. Ugh. It is still worth it.
Wow, that change-out fee is a witch - glad I was able to get mine before-hand.
That manual fee is high - but I agree, worth it. that's the highest I've heard of. Most seem to be in the 20-25 range. So far, my state hasn't imposed a fee, but they'll likely try to.
