I totally agree.

I had a family member with an autoimmune disease who didn’t want meds and found a book by a German doctor called “life without bread” it said less then 72 carbs a day will provide results in overall health and cure most autoimmune and other disease and you may be able to actually push it to 100 but over that you won’t see any results.

The family member started and did less then 40 carbs(not net carbs but total carbs) and within a month they were better and have stayed on it since, even though their doctor complains about it and always tells them they have too many ketones and not enough glucose for brain function lol.

After a few months I went on it, I have a history of kidney stones though. I did 20 or below carbs a day(not net), I felt amazing after a couple of weeks. Roughly 6 months in I get a huge stone, go to a new doctor since mine left and told them I needed something for my kidney stone(they were usually large and took a few months to pass).

She ordered lab work while I waited and came back in and told me I had diabetes and some other stuff being out of range. I said I’m extremely low carb, ketones are normal. She gave me a speech how this level of ketones wasn’t normal in “low carb” individuals etc. I explained that’s because they’re not doing it right.

Then more blood work and she came back in and said I didn’t have diabetes but I was jeopardizing my life with being so severely in ketosis lol. All I said was can I get something for this pain in my side or not, the answer was no, “it was caused by my diet”(never mind 6 months had been the longest period I’d went without one, it was all documented in my records but she didn’t care).

I suffered through it for 3 months barely eating from nausea and pain but maintained less then 20 carbs, probably more like 5 since I was hardly eating.

When it finally passed I only weighed 163 pounds down from 215 (I’m 6’ 3” and muscular) and nothing fit, I had to buy some temporary clothes for work. I went off of ketosis for 6 months then to put some weight back on. I had planned on only a month but even eating everything bad for me and full of sugar it still took me roughly two months to stop being in somewhat of ketosis and to start adding weight.

Once I hit 200 I went back on it and did the remainder of my weight gain a healthy way, I just needed to get back into my expensive work clothes quickly(although it still took forever eating like crap everyday).

That was my last kidney stone I’ve had(hopefully). I’ve been on it for almost ten years at this point and feel amazing. I do a cheat day rarely at a family event (but not the last year of lockdown). And even then I don’t go over 60-80 or pig out on all the desserts or carbs.

People who regular have cheat days, like weekly always fail because one cheat day turns into two etc. and there’s no health benefit from a weekly or monthly cheat day.

I’m still not without temptation but found a method to fix it. Rarely I’ll get a craving from a commercial that drives me crazy, I know it’s bad but I can’t help it. So i head out after a day or so to buy it, chew it and spit every chewed up bite into the trash can. Problem solved.

Except for my girlfriend who thinks it’s a waste of food, money and is disgusting lol.

I still get occasionally get a cold every few years but they’re extremely mild and only last a day or two at most. I still always wonder if it’s going to be a bad one then it’s gone the next morning lol.
