What you're saying reminds me of what Yuri Bezmenov talked about, his 4 stages of subversion. The first was demoralization, which involved basically exactly what you're talking about here. He believed most of that stage was completed around 1985. I'd say it continues to this day but, he was probably right that the brunt of it was done around that time.

1st step is demoralization:

As the younger generation embraces new values, such as Marxism and Leninism, the older generation slowly loses control simply through attrition. Again, true facts no longer matter during this stage, but rather creating perceptions are of paramount importance.”
