It plainly says in every bit of media he has put out that he was jewish and that a government employee helped him and his family escape occupied Hungary using false documents as a 14 year old kid, he said so on his "Open Society Foundation" page. He has been 100% consistent about this in every interview ever given.

The "best time of his life" referred to him witnessing "his father's heroism". His father was a jewish rat but that's another thing.
