Also, God divorced the Israelites when they worshipped the golden calf. In order to be remarried, or form a new covenant, the spouse must die or cheat. The Israelites not only killed Jesus but they also worshipped an idol, which is like fornication. So, in order for Christ to form a new covenant with a different people, he was crucified. He fulfilled the Law and gave Christians the ability to be citizens of heaven by believing in him. Plus, the only laws for the Christians were different than the ones for the Jews. Interesting really and also important.
