Honest question (not that it matters because I completely understand rule of law is not in effect):

How does the executive branch of government have jurisdiction to release people from prison while they are serving their sentence? Is this not protected somehow by law?

Is it simply an extension of pardoning power?

Do any law scholars or lawyers know what powers other branches of gov't have over adjusting sentences AFTER sentencing?

I'm in the same camp here. They seem to be tied to the BAR a corrupt leash to the crown and the prisons are private so you have $ in play all around. I see the whole lost revenue thing, however, they probably need room for us. A prison is never running with vacancies. The whole thing is rotten, we need a rebuild.

In this case, you're jumping the gun. These people were picked up, booked, and released on bail or whatever. Then later on (more recently) the DA declined to press charges. They have not been charged with a crime. Some of them were released on bail, some sat in a county cell while the DA rolled around to get them a court date. Something like 95% of them have been released at this point.

If you are not charged with a crime, you would not need a pardon.

I hear what you're saying regarding the rioters, but I am referring to the convicted criminals set to be released:

I am curious how they can arbitrarily commute the sentences of convicted criminals. Otherwise, what is the point of a sentence and/or appeals process?

Oh, I missed that. Carry on.

I give up on America. I am moving to Spain.

What's better about Spain? I'd understand if you were a liberal.

It’s possible they are being released because the Dems know the audit fallout is about to break wide open.
