People get very defensive about cryptos, but after having participated on a crypto generating platform where I would watch the prices. Over time I notice how a new 'whale' arrives and buys its way in. Suddenly the value of the whole market jumps 5-10%, and when a large account anounces the end of their participation and the entire market drops noticeably. The conclusion became clearer, crypto markets generate a value based on incoming investments. This is the primary defining factor of a ponzi scheme and had noted before that some decisions that cryptos are allowed to make, if they were treated as investments would have whole teams of people tossed in prison for 10-20 years. However, they aren't regulated the same way.
