Just making it look good, like they're really going to find anything - that "evidence" was gotten rid of months ago probably. But they gotta keep up the appearance that there might be a chance of "finding the smoking gun". They're not scared. But they know the general public are fucking stupid and besides it's not like anybody is going to do anything about it.
