Hey, hey!! Thanks so much for the valuable tip. This makes much sense. So, here's my thinking. I'm understanding cargos and ships are insured. There are deadlines and those come with penalties for failure to deliver on time. Not that I know the details but I'm sure there must be something like this. I'm sure everyone damaged by this grounding in the canal would have some legal standing to sue the ship owners who are insured. So, yes, it stands to reason that such damages can literally destroy an insurance company but also the shipping company involved. I'm guessing the insurance has upper limits and any thing over would go right back to the shipping company? Even if a pilot from the canal was doing the piloting the captain still is responsible and ultimately the owners from my understanding. What, 450 ships delayed? I'm betting there are accountants from all shipping companies documenting their losses and setting up claims. As for what cargo Ever Given carried, I'd need more evidence but enough is going on to raise eyebrows. Like our navy paying close attention to the ship and being with it or near it as it moves along. As for it stopping in Bitter Lake, that is something I would expect. It has to be refueled for instance and the hull would need to be examined for damages. So directly it would delay it's own cargo and maybe penalties? If as reported by some HRC has some sort of stake in the shipping company it would cost her foundation for sure. If illegal stuff is found on board and especially children or human trafficking, it could draw in participants to face criminal charges. But that's just speculation on my part. It would be amazing if something like this becomes fodder for the news "services".
