Well, at the time that they first floated the idea that Jefferson had sex with his own slaves, it was common knowledge that the information was bad from bogus sources and had been discredited repeatedly. And the people who first started that slanderous rumor and lied repeatedly about other subjects when it often created myths whole cloth. Then others started repeating it and then others. Eventually people with some credibility start repeating the lies that they have heard and now it’s considered history. We’ve gone so far as to “find“ some “descendants“ of Jefferson that could not possibly have descended from him.
Lincoln was flawed, but he also had balls enough to get the job done, whether you agree with his work or not.
I wish certain other presidents had had the balls to do what was necessary in tough times to preserve our republic instead of allowing drones to force people back into their homes because of a virus that won’t even kill them. We surrendered our republic in spring of 2020. We used to “states rights” as an excuse to allow governors to violate the rights of their own citizens illegally and unconstitutional. Those governors should’ve been arrested but instead were allowed to destroy our republic by forever taking something they will never get back.
Good post! You gave an example of exactly what I was meaning.
I also agree with you about Lincoln. If you critic anyone’s life based on standards in which weren’t around at the time of their life I doubt they’d pass muster. We are flawed to some degree.
