A very good video on the true facts about the institution of slavery. Sowell very clearly makes many of the points we make here -- that whites were enslaved as well as blacks; that enslaved races benefited from having been enslaved. In ancient times, the Romans enslaved and occupied European nations, and the peoples of those places benefited greatly by being taken into the Roman Empire; in the same way, American blacks are much better off than African blacks due to their ancestors having been enslaved. He also makes the point that whites in the past couple of centuries are the only race that has ever fought against slavery in the history of the world.

Sowell does not say a single word about Jews in connection with the slave trade, but the Jewish involvement in slavery has only become well known since being exposed by Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. Sowell can't be blamed for not knowing the extent to which Jews were involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Or it may be he simply did not wish his message to be sidetracked by a mention of Jews.
