The space shuttle crew reported seeing shooting star like streaks while eyes closed and trying to sleep on a satellite repair mission (possibly hubble). They had gotten relatively close to the belts. Nasa had them relocate away from the belts make the repairs and had determined it was radiation particles passing thru the optic nerve center in their brains causing the "shooting stars".
