In up country it rains daily, but not that much. The lower elevation parts get a spitting of rain here and there.

There are on going disputes about water on Maui. Most of the rain falls in the higher elevations on the East side if the mountain. All of the relatively flat land good for farming is in the middle of the island. Over 100 years ago, some white guys built dams and canals etc to divert a bunch of that rainforest water down into the lands that would be good for farming, but lacked water. Now the people who live up in the rainy part bitch about their water being stolen for farms and they have on going arguments about it.

They bitch about water going to grow the food they eat? That makes no sense. Some people just want to bitch.
