The real issue is that this would even be a talking point. The fact that people need to government to save them is exposing the reliance of the people on the government. They used to run government aid off after crazy events like this. My personal anecdote is that I don’t and will not get government aid after what happened in Texas. I have to replace every water line to my house and I will do what I have to do to make that happen without asking for help financially. I may call on a friend or relative to lend a hand but that’s the extent of the aid I will ever ask for.

Agreed. You’d think people in this state, at least on the coast, would be used to this by now. We have a weather event almost every year, and it always interrupts power, food, and/or water availability. There are simply too many people, too many unique situations, too large a variety of problems, for the government to ever be able to address those problems effectively.

This one did spark my liberal sister in law out of her comfort zone, though. Somehow, this one finally got through to her.

I stopped believing them in 2001 and never trusted them. After 9/11 is when I found I needed to go to multiple sources for the same story and even then I knew I was only getting part of the truth. They became a joke when they were all using the same phrases on the same stories.
