What's crazy to me is when the families don't just come pick them up and refuse to pay the nursing home any longer. How hard is it to take care of your elderly relative for even just a few months, under these conditions? You band together with your siblings, take turns and just do it. (I am speaking as a hospital social worker here. People are pretty damned selfish and don't even consider this option).
