So everyone knows, lights going out on a timer at 11:00pm is not normal. No it hasn't happened regularly in the past. It normally only happens when a president dies. There was an exception while Trump was in office during the DC riots they turned out the lights a few nights to deter the crowds. Just know, it's not normal no matter what the sheep tell you it is. The New York Times reported that the White House shut its external lights off during demonstrations early Monday morning, while Daily Beast editor Molly Jung-Fast also wrote that the lights were down. In fact, the lights at the White House are turned off at 11 p.m. every night.

Lights that normally illuminate the exterior of the White House were disabled early Monday morning, leading to some reports that the Secret Service wanted to use night-vision equipment to monitor protesters. White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere told Fox News on Monday, however, that the lights were turned off due to “standard protocol," not for security reasons. The complex's external lights are normally disabled at 11 p.m. ET unless specific requests are made to keep them online, including by media networks.
