It didn't work though. Some other stock is now being shorted which was being used to prop up the first lot of hedge funds.

They lost 2.73 billion dollars on their borrowed shares. Its like hitting your shin on the corner of your coffee table, didn't see it coming, didn't think it was possible from your positioning.
