just flew over the lake where we live in northeast Texas (between Dallas and Shreveport) all headed south. 1st time I've ever seen that many at once in 16 years.

Not sure if this will help, and others can feel free to correct me, but a little extra knowledge might help you draw your own conclusions.

The main thing to take note of is what type of aircraft they were. A whole bunch of Apaches with Little Bird spotters is way different than people movers. If they were Blackhawks, Hueys or Chinooks (the big, double blade jobs), then they're going somewhere to pick people up or drop them off.

7 Blackhawks can shoehorn what, 7-8 grunts each? So, 49-64 groundpounders maximum delivered somewhere? That's a platoon

Small (not as small as the hospital emergency ones), dark, single prop

Sounds like a people mover. Wonder if they were picking up or dropping off.

Not sure. Just thought I'd mention it because it was not the norm.
