The bigger picture: In and after WW II, the OSS/CIA brought tens of thousands of Germans into the US - scientists, engineers and Gehlen agents (Operation Paperclip). After they fulfilled their official tasks for the military (Manhattan project, rocket science, chemical and biological weapons, ..), they weren't sent home, but instead placed by the CIA into the private sector (+ NASA). The CIA could use them as cheap labour: while many Germans changed their names, the CIA still had their war crime records. With this manpower, the CIA could overtake the military industrial complex.
The Gehlen Organization had hundreds of thousands of collaborators in Russia and East Europe, plus all the ex-Nazis and ex-Fascists that formed the stay-behind troops for Operation Gladio. They all were essential in the cold war against Russia, but way too expensive for the CIA budget. The CIA solved the budget problem with the drugs and weapons business.
Selling drugs and weapons grew fast into a trillion dollar business, and the CIA had to create money laundering operations. They invested the money in the military-industrial complex, media, Hollywood, universities and high tech companies.
Under the guise of "counter intelligence", the CIA infiltrated the military until they could control military secrets and budget decisions. And they still had unlimited dark money to invest. They used this combination for some investments (always with a "young dynamic entrepreneur" as a front man): With Microsoft, they monetized small computers developed for the military. Amazon is the monetarization of military logistics. Google started with the indexing software for the Library of Congress. Facebook is the continuation of the DARPA LifeLog project.
Yea, and after Russia fell they kept the whole illegal operation rolling as war reparations. Riggs Bank, BCCI operations moved to Deutscha Bank who then used the reproposed Russian Banking system to launder illicit money; that is where Putin entered the picture in St Petersburg as Deputy Mayor. Hey, let's not forget Walmart, another military logistics company and the front door for China. American made was their motto while they were changing Chinese labels to USA labels in the back room . And don't forget the role of the Mafia. The OSS used them in Operation Underworld, and they were allies in Italy because Mussolini had chased them into the mountains. The CIA continued the cooperation: in Italy for the shipment of heroin to the US, and inside the US for the distribution. The CIA founded the P2 lodge in Italy to connect and coordinate Mafia, politicians and the Vatican. The Vatican Bank was the center of the money laundering operations. Later, Robert Swan Mueller replaced the Italian Mafia inside the US with Ukrainian and Russian mobsters.
