"Who didn't make it out?" "Oh, that's easy," he said. "The optimists." "The optimists? I don't understand," I said, now completely confused, given what he'd said a hundred meters earlier. "The optimists. Oh, they were the ones who said, 'We're going to be out by Christmas.' And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then they'd say,'We're going to be out by Easter.' And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart."

People who pass along info that is not proven or verifiable are just hurting those that need something to hold onto.

Create a category of "Patriot Porn", because most of it is just mental masturbation.

You seem to misunderstood the very article you posted.

>"People who pass along info that is not proven or verifiable are just hurting those that need something to hold onto."

What is that "something to hold onto" you're referring to? Then, you tell us by stating:

>"Create a category of "Patriot Porn", because most of it is just mental masturbation."

This is suggesting, it's all a useless exercise. The Stockdale Paradox argues there has to be a balance realism with optimism. Your statement above is outside the context of the Stockdale Paradox. It doesn't meet either of the two things talked about. Your statment seems to be saying - Give up. Resistance (hopium) is futile. If any Vietnam POW held this belief, they'd end up the first to not survive. They'd likely be killed by their fellow POWs.

I believe that most of the people posting here have a balanced realism with optimism. Yet, there are some people who push -- 'Give up. Your hope is useless and futile' farce around here and act as 'demoralizing' agents and provocateurs.

I like how when someone post something that make a valid point, and is worthy of consideration, and the response is FU, get off off our site. That kind of says it all, doesn't it?

It appears you're responding to my post. However, I haven't had anyone responding to it with an FU. Am I missing your point?

I saw FU responses to the thread here and the individual (mrblotto) who posted it though. I don't like it. It's what we are now living with. Your last sentence is describing microcosm of a much larger problem. To me, its so 'In-your-face' and happened so very quickly in our society that its as if someone actually pulled a switch.
