The problem is confession will not help him if he has no resolve to repent and reform his evil life. The Bishops that do not stand up to him will be complicit in his evil. Repentance is a prerequisite for redemption. Without having learned from our sins, we are doomed to repeat them. And Jesus did say something about backsliders.
