Article I, Section 3: (Relevant Part)The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.
John Roberts has shown his disdain for the plain language of the Constitution in several of his decisions, but in this case, the occupant of the position of chief justice and he alone is assigned the duty of presiding. There is no ambiguity. The standard for holding his office is "during a period of good behaviour." and shirking his assigned duty clearly does not meet that standard. He should be given the option to fulfill his constitutionally assigned duty, resign, or be impeached and removed.
