The military was very clearly a show of power. "Fuck around and find out." Anyone who could get within a 10 mile radius of the capital building had to go through multiple checkpoints, have passes, and submit to vehicle searches. They set it up like the Green Zone in Iraq. Anyone who thinks that it would be possible to storm such an encampment is welcome to try it. WADC was revamped after 9/11. The events on Jan 6th were a one-time fluke that would not be allowed to repeat itself. Ever. The government will maintain the fortress posture from here on out.
