For those of us that are just beginning: The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turbo-prop built by the Lockheed Aircraft as a Cargo/Troop transport aircraft. Besides the basic role of hauling cargo and troops, it was used as a medevac, gunship, airborne assault, search and rescue, weather recon, aerial refueling, maritime patrol, aerial firefighting and a tactical military aircraft.
I was at an airshow in the '80s, EAA in Oshkosh I think it was, they had a C-130 backed up to its Russian counterpart, both bays open. Gosh they're huge!!
EAA: Experimental Aircraft Assn.
Obviously, I'm brand new to this. I'm thankful for all info.
It seems that these aircraft are all-purpose transport.
I looked up the Osprey. Wow a plane and a helicopter with tiltrotors. Really incredible
C-17 is even bigger many in the air all day.
