When I was there, a 2000sqft house cost $380k, while the same house here cost $120k. Thank God I rented and didn't buy. I was there when the housing bubble popped. Sheriff stickers on more than half the houses in my neighborhood. People just walked away from their houses and mortgage commitments. I couldn't relate to the people there. I worked around 90-100hrs/wk and they bragged about getting out of work or complained that they weren't going to do something because it wasn't their job. It was a bad experience outside of work. The only positives I took away were the area was very beautiful and I left Virginia debt free.
