This is truly a real thing - not related to the political discussion but still worth noting. The increase in the speed of the movement of the magnetic north pole has definitely been an issue for GPS. Also, there's a significant magnetic hole in the southern hemisphere that's formed over the last couple of years.
To date, the magnetic pole has travelled about 1,400 miles (2,250km). As a result of the shift, scientists have to frequently update the World Magnetic Model, which is a vital element of smartphone navigation systems and GPS.
