Happens to many of us living on the bleeding edge of breaking news at some point. If something doesn't have sauce, or has very weak sauce, the face saving 48hr rule applies. Wait up to 48hrs for sauce before deciding if you really want to spread it.

Reporting the Rome blackout had sauce, reporting theories about Pope arrest were speculation without sauce. It's still possible there is something to it, but it's all still speculation without some proof. If you promote it, always emphasize that it is currently just a theory and not fact so others aren't misled. That will keep you on everyone's Christmas list if it eventually is proven wrong.
