Unfortunately their hardware is software specific. I know that there are some true Linux phones available but not very common. I sure wish we could have real LINUX laptops or desktops instead of bloatware Windows 10. Nonetheless, most people are too addicted to their so-called smart phones, they have all their lives recorded on that phone and their minds are too weak to part with it. They could just switch back to a new flip phone available from several manufacturers, that never needs software or firmware updates, you can take pictures with it too, the battery will last well over a week. Day and night, smart phones are constantly downloading, updating and uploading all your files to their servers for analysis by digital algorithms, oh that's the part that they don't tell you. You have to constantly charge the darn things and the battery only lasts a few days with a full charge, they are bulky to carry and don't fit right in your pocket. In addition, you can read their LEGAL TERMS where they even admit of the dangers of high frequency magnetic radiation emitted from these things and how children must not be exposed and to set on airplane mode if kids are using their tablets. So bottom line is that you have very few choices if you don't make THE hard choice. Otherwise BIG TECH will always control your life.
