His book reads like it was written by somebody else. Computer geeks just don't write like that. Too busy coding. Whoever wrote the book has done lots of other writing.
I suspect he was a double agent of some kind, with a mission to get closer to the Russians, but they kept him at arms length for that very reason, so if that was the plan it didn't work. Worth a try though. If he was actually giving away valuable secrets, he'd already be dead.
