My hair stands on end at the thought of the deep state regaining control of the US military, via Biden. Sad sad things are coming if that happens.
Surely a fucking eurotrash outlet isn't the only one reporting on this.
The mobile 175 was the last super gun, used sparingly in Vietnam, now obsolete. You can trust me, I was born at Ft. Sill, my dad was a cannon cocker for 34 yrs
I read things like this.
<- Marine. Understanding the power and effect of range in combat.
I still wonder why sometimes.. It doesnt beat the cruise missle, it surely doesnt beat the nuclear arsenal.
Great, we have made conventional warfare deadly from a longer range. (saves our guys lives, saves us in equipment) -- But has it really advanced warfighting?
I bet we gave this shit to Israel already too...
This isn't one of these tests where they do it 50 million times till it works and then say "look what I can do" is it?
Edit: After closely reading the article again, it was only 3.
Some perspective for Australians, they could fire this in Sydney harbor and hit something in the blue mountains.
Firing rounds and hitting targets are two different things. The 50-mile range has been exceeded for decades by land, sea and air
Things no one needed for a thousand Alex. Past a relatively short range you need a spotter and advanced targeting. If you have both anyway, you might as well use something we already have that is more accurate.
Additionally, I doubt wars will be moving away from the close quarters affairs like they are today. You don't have enemy armies hunkered down in one location that is vulnerable to such weapons. You have enemy forces that are either very mobile or inside of structures with potential non-combatants. Depending on the region, you may have enemy command groups in hidden bunker like features (such as caves) but you will notice a trend of people just not fighting in a way that would make such a weapon useful.
The russians have been doing this for decades now.
I thought we killed the paladins and gave up on mobile artillery? We don't fight people without air superiority. So why not just use a predator? It's not like anyone at the pentagon can tell the difference between a ryder truck of 100 dollar bills and a stack of ones anyway.
