Been trying it out and I don't much like it.

No sense of community.

Little of interest gets posted.

Works poorly.

Hard to figure out.

Reminds me of Twitter.

My problem with gab is that it isn't topic oriented. Posts get fragmented due to reposting so most of the commenters never see each other's comments. If you have a good idea, even a really good idea, it doesn't have a chance to really take hold and reach a large, interested audience.

The voat flow of information was better. Usenet was better still, but now I'm dating myself!

Usenet worked incredibly well. Very simple rather than bloated with unnecessary features. I'd love to go back to that design.

Another thing about usenet: the concept of "forum slide" didn't exist because news readers kept track of what you had or had not seen. You could catch up, marking everything as read, but you could also see a list of all threads that have new activity so you don't miss anything.

They've purposely changed how these forum sites work in order to control us and push their shit on us.

We need to go back to the basics.

Usenet still exists. I think it's the perfect option. You can set up your group to be moderated or unmoderated. I just doubt anybody has created a phone app to read usenet groups.

I don't know that it's as decentralized as it was back in the day. One satisfying thing: even wikipedia today admits that the backbone cabal was real.
