The summary of this piece is the first paragraph: “A presidential impeachment trial in the Senate is one man’s worst nightmare. That man isn’t President Donald Trump, however. He’ll take it in stride. It’s Chief Justice John Roberts, who will have to preside.”
Notes:
- Roberts (a GOP ‘W’ appointee) is best known for how he left USCs on the hook for having to continue paying for the heavy yearly increases they would be paying insurance company premiums for Obamacare (The Affordable Care Act). Immediately after giving his ruling, Roberts flew off to Europe- running away, not discussing, and not solving the problem – (especially for low-salaried people who couldn’t AFFORD to pay any more money) but siding with the Dems. USCs were then left holding the O’care bag – and having to pay more money to the ‘Bigs’ involved in it: Insurance, Pharma, Medicine, and related entities. (Remember that O had set up a deal with the ‘Bigs’ for them to make profits off of USC increases in premiums and related programs for at least 10 years. This was a money-making venture for the ‘Bigs’. How much did O later get in kick-backs from orchestrating this maneuver with the ‘Big’s? [Look at O’s parallel kick-back from Pearson Publishing on sticking all American PK-12 public schools – i.e. US taxpayers - with the ‘Common Core’ education program and then, later, getting a great book deal from Pearson ($65,000,000), in a ‘quid pro quo’ arrangement.)
2, With this record (and behavior), it’s understandable that GOP members would not trust Roberts. (Does Roberts have any hidden ‘skeletons ’ in his background?)
The main strategy for Roberts to handle DJT’s impeachment (if it goes forward) is to straddle and prod. As a protégé of Rehnquist, Roberts may want to follow what his mentor did during WJC’s impeachment proceedings.
The main paragraph from this read is: “The best strategy available to Roberts may be to rely on a quirk of Senate impeachment rules. Under Senate precedent, a majority of the Senate can overrule any procedural or evidentiary decision made by the chief justice.”
The remaining paragraphs are supporting details. Read the article to find out what these are.
