I knew about the Gell-Mann effect when I was ten years old. Of course, I didn't call it that. But I noticed that whenever I read a piece in the local newspaper about people I knew personally, multiple facts were wrong. Names were mispelled, ages were incorrect, street addresses were wrong. It made my little-boy mind wonder, if they get this wrong, how much of the rest of the newspaper is just as riddled with errors?

There comes a point when this no longer works and you see lies everywhere. At this point a story has to be proven to your now cynical and likely older self before you'll believe it.

I saw this happen right in front of my eyes when I was about 7 or 8. My dad standing in the middle of the living room Screaming at the tv "news" anchor. Dad Knew that the news guy was lying. Pop was yelling, "I was THERE! I KNOW what happened and he's lying about it!" Then the "news" went on with the next lie filled story and my poor ol dad believed every word! I decided right then and there that I would never believe anything in the "news"!
