In reality, it doesn't really matter where the file is saved because the user pays absolutely zero attention to the location of the file. They simply ignore the option to navigate to a logical place to put the file and instead just go with the default directory the save dialog starts with. The user "loses" the file because they didn't bother to do anything to organize their files and instead blame the program for "losing" it. The file is not lost. The user is the one who is lost.

As a programmer who has built software for decades, yes users are stupid. Many are nigger-level stupid even. I have some unbelievable stories of such stupidity and I cannot say they have improved any throughout the years. Some people just aren't cut out to use computers or any even mildly advanced technology. It's sad but true.
