Yeah, no shit. Did you honestly think they DIDN'T do this shit? Just build a mediacenter pc. Its not hard or expensive and you can run any blocker you want on it and not have to fuck about with "apps" and shit.

i own one to use for my security system. i tried a monitor but no go. before i click on the system there are all kinds of ridiculous offers of garbage viewing. they really push the propaganda.

Yeah, Maybe put it on the network one time for a software update then ban it forever. Sometimes they fuck you on features "out of the box" unless it gets a update.
