Google probably folded right away, just saying.

A global privacy nightmare is unfolding.

The UK government secretly ordered Apple to backdoor encrypted iCloud storage worldwide—but Apple is legally forbidden from revealing this order, or they face criminal charges. This affects 2 BILLION USERS.

Under the UK’s Investigatory Powers Act (IPA) 2016, Apple was served a Technical Capability Notice (TCN)—forcing them to create a backdoor for encrypted iCloud data. This is not limited to UK users. It applies worldwide, meaning your private files are at risk, no matter where you live. https://www.macworld.com/article/2602513/uk-demands-backdoor-to-apples-encrypted-cloud-storage-putting-everyone-at-risk.html

Apple is legally forbidden from revealing this order. If Apple even acknowledges that the UK issued this demand, they could face criminal charges. This is a secret government order with global consequences.

This isn’t just about the UK (although they are leading the charge in threatening citizens in OTHER countries for violating BRITISH censorship laws!) If Apple complies, every government in the world will demand the same access—from the US to China to authoritarian regimes. (continues)

Even if they aren't allowed to talk about the order they will still have to disclose the fact that your data is not encrypted in their TOS or their privacy policy. I don't know about the UK, but in the US they would have to change some laws first before they could completely hide the fact. I don't support crApple or jewgle, but I don't see them folding on this issue. They are American companies first and foremost. They cannot simply break US law to comply with a foriegn government's order.

The empire that led the way in literature, science, mathematics, politics, now leads the plummet into oblivion. I had hoped to travel as an adult to visit the country I so admired as a child but I'm at least 60 years too late. It's gone and not coming back.

RIP Britannia
