Of course not. Furthermore, their data collection can't tell whether you're driving or riding as a passenger in a New York cab.

I just went thru my phone locations/apps/permissions/all permissions to make sure they were off or signaled to ask permission. I most recently used google maps and in permissions saw it has a ''physical activity" tracker. I only want to use it to map driving routes not find out where I walk or how much activity there is in my house. Usually I drive with airplane mode and data off to save my cheap plan GB, and now after changes I hope apps won't be secretly spying while I'm not using them or in airplane mode.

It still records your gps location even in airplane mode, then uploads it as soon as you turn airplane mode off. Better to leave the phone at home for routine errand drives, or if taking a long trip where the phone might be needed in an emergency, turn it off before leaving. Better yet, use a flip phone without internet capability, such as one from Sunbeam.
