What could possibly go wrong?

Archive: https://archive.today/Zj9d3

From the post: "Facial recognition is an invasive and dangerous surveillance technology. When the government moves forward with pilot programs that will, if fully implemented, subject millions of people on a daily basis to the technology that should give us all pause. Currently the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is running two different pilots that use of facial recognition technology to confirm travelers’ identity. As explained below, this is a mistake—not only because of the ongoing privacy and bias issues but because of the long term implications of using our face as our ID. That is why EPIC has previously urged Congress to suspend TSA’s use of facial recognition technology and supports the call by several Senators earlier this year for TSA to halt the technology’s use."

You may opt out. Tell the agent as soon as you approach the device, and don't stand on the mark.

Customs is also cool with this... He: "Please look at the camera." Me: "I want to opt out of the biometrics collection." He: "Sure. May I see your passport?" No further hassle from CBP at the airport.

You may also need to do this again at the gate. Tell the gate agent before boarding if they are doing biometrics at boarding and they will handle it.

Yes, a very good point. Though, they will not tell you that you can opt out and eventually they won't let you opt out at all.

They are probably 98% there with your biometrics anyway, they just need to tie the bow to make this legally admissible. You confirmed your identity to TSA when you boarded the flight after biometric scan, or some "voluntary" bullshit.

One flaw of biometrics/facial recognition is it's like having a username without a password. Sure, the username is very long, but once it's broken, you can't get a new one. You need a password that only you know to prevent others from spoofing your biometric pattern. At the computer level, your face is a mathematical representation. Once that is known, it's all over for you. You can't just obtain a new one.

Facial Rec has been broken so, so, many times over the decades it is amazing that they are still trying to use it for anything important. Every time they come out with a new method, someone manages to break it in a few days or weeks.
