Pepes, it is time to make a decision (for those waiting to see) about being self sufficient. The Article in the link will inspire you; to get you thinking about what you can and can not do. The link below is a YouTube site called Old Alabama Gardner. His name is Charles. He provides detailed notes on How To plant, harvest and cook foods. I believe he is in Zone 7, but you can still use his in depth knowledge to shorten your learning curve no matter what zone you live. His notes are invaluable. Charles was on heart meds and died this past December due to their side-effects. What a damn waste! I don't know how long his site will remain up; I suggest you record as many of his methods as possible before they disappear. My wife works in management at a local grocery store. The stores are really trying to make it appear as if there is no shortage - there is and it is getting worse by the week. They can do nothing about the prices - it is only the beginning. This winter will be a test of sorts. Please have what you need for November, December, January, February and March (at a minimum). Food, water, fuel, energy, and a method to protect it. Know your neighbors, choose the good ones and help each other. Don't expect to go to the big box stores and find what you need, get it now. Don't forget items to maintain your vehicles. Maintain your home's AC and heat. There is still time in many areas to grow a fall crop, only grow what you like. Collards, Brussel sprouts, cow peas, beats, carrots, mustard greens, etc. During the winter months prepare your plan for a spring garden as soon as possible. Your well-being may depend on it. Don't wait until it happens, there is much to do and preparation is the key. JUST DO IT.
