It reminds me of the movie Dead Again where the main protagonist is trying to quit smoking. He meets Robin Williams who is a smoker and offers him a cigarette. He says, "No, thanks. I'm trying to quit." Robin Williams says, "Bullshit. You're either a smoker or a nonsmoker. Pick one and be that."
That has always stuck with me.
