I couldn't read the article because of ad block, but the correct action would be getting rid of whatever bill this is so taxpayers aren't taxed for this. Taxing citizens so they can give money to a campaign isn't a donation, it's theft.
We act like politicians would hate this but ultimately that would be coming from tax dollars. We would be giving tax dollars to certain individuals to promote themselves generally. If you owned a company you would be stupid to not take the money and then just talk about how great your company was.
