Wrong legal attitude - they should not be 'defending' the victim, they should be attacking the perpetrators - suing them for emotional damages, lawyers' fees, and huge punitive damages for constitutional violations.

Or better yet just lynch all State officials.

The 8th Amendment is one of my favorites and I've long been for jails without engineered violence because of it. But I completely missed the excessive fines clause.
